Live Louis Jordan?

Postby zeppo1 » Sat Nov 24, 2007 11:07 pm

Besides the LP "Prime Cuts" (and the CD "Live Jive") is there any live Louis Jordan out there? I was just thinking how cool it would be to hear a Louis Jordan show after reading some excerpts from "Let the Good Times Roll" - does such a thing exist?

Thanks!

Hi, zeppo1. I posted the Swinghouse LP "Prime Cuts" on the bebopwino blog a while back. I've also got another Swinghouse LP of Louis Jordan radio transcriptions - "Good Times", which I've still to post. I've looked at the tracklist of the "Live Jive" CD on Amazon and it looks like it's from the same sources as the Swinghouse material. There were three Swinghouse LPs of live Jordan material, but I'm afraid I only bought two of them.

Hey Boogiewoody,

Thanks! And thanks for your execellent BeBop Whino blog - the internet must be a small place - that's where I picked up Prime Cuts a few days ago. Also thanks for the excellent rip (and scan of the liner notes) of the Roots of Chuck Berry. I hope I did not break any rules of equiette by posting that on another forum - I did not mean to claim credit by doing so, I did it in the interest of sharing - still can't get over how Chuck lifted that riff from Ain't That Just Like A Woman.

I've recently become obsessed with Louis Jordan and am quite the newbie with this type of music. What other artists would you recommend to someone who digs Louis?

Thanks again :)

Wow! That's a question and a half. Other good 1940's jump bands would include:

Roy Milton
Joe Liggins
Jimmy Liggins
Jack McVea
Bullmoose Jackson
Tiny Bradshaw

There's nobody else quite like Louis but Roy Milton is probably the best of the rest. Of course there's all those blues shouters, tenor sax honkers, boogie woogie piano players, blues guitarists, red hot mamas and jivey vocal groups to investigate ....
