Phantom Dancer Tues 16 Sep & Sun 21 Sep 2008

Postby phantom dancer » Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:45 am

Tuesday September 16, 12 midday to 1.30pm (0200 GMT)

Repeated Sundays September 21 6.30am to 8am (Saturday 2030 GMT)

Swing, jazz and dance from live 1920s to '60s radio broadcasts. Today's show features part of a rare broadcast by the Gay Claridge Orchestra from the Chez Paree in Chicago in 1944 featuring jazz's first woman electric guitarist, Mary Osbourne. Mary bought her first electric guitar the day after she heard Charlie Christian at a gig in Bismarck ND. By 1968 she founded the Osborne Guitar Company, which later became the Osborne Sound Laboratories, a manufacturer of amplifiers and public-address systems. Presented by Greg Poppleton. Enjoy!
