There is a lot of members with out eny posts. My suggestion is limited download solution. Something like this, if user dont have 30 posts he can't see download link.

I'd happy to upload some stuff but I need help.
Do I have to zip the files before I upload them?
I have Win Rar but I don't see an option to zip the files. Should I use Win Zip instead?
After I zip them I suppose I will use Sharbee.
Also, are there legal issues I should worry about since I am in the USA?
I do post in the topics once in awhile but would like to share some music too.

Dimples, RIAA is bitching at some legal issues. Dont worry.
Well, zip or rar, it's up to you. You have to compress it anyways.

I know some sites have a policy that when it seems like too many people download, but not upload - they go to a "no-upload - no download" rule. That can be a little rough, but I agree with setting limitations... also if you have no post, you should not be able to make any request.

Best regards,

This is what I think.
No post (call It upload or found link) no download.
Or somthing like this: "say thanks if U want download"

Another suggestion is to make a private category that is by invitation only. Moderators can invite posters to have access. The regular open topics are for everyone and when a active poster that shares, comments on topics and says thank you they can have access to the private forum. In the private forum can be posted extra special music, like rare cd's and special treasures from their collections.

Great idea. But take a look at this:

members post albums = moderators invites

Yes, that is one example. Another could be if a member takes the time to discuss music and dance and is an asset to the forum by sharing their knowledge or experience. It is easy to see who is here to download only and who is here to make this a good place with discussions too.

It cannot become a private club in which the general forum dies. It should be reserved for certain special gems or treasures. The general board needs to stay active and vital also.

Here is an example:
I have something to share, but it is rare. I may not want all forum members to all have it, especially when most of them do not upload and share. I might want to only share it with the few people that have become friends with and who have given me some great music. I can upload all my regular music to the general public forum, and my private gems to the private forum.
If you want to get the gem, share and discuss.

This would be an incentive to begin sharing and discussing to those who do not do so now.
If you have a post count, say, you need 30 posts to download, all that will do is to have a bunch of posts that have no real value just to get a member's post count up to 30.

This sistem just does not work. why? We would need a premium account to have acees to that code that would make possible to allow only real active mebers to be abtle to see those rare posts.

You have the stupidiest admin yuo could ask for.

Hi,

I never upload any album, cause I don`t know how to do it.
And for sure I`m a little bit afraid of making something against the laws.

So my question: How do you do that ?

You can leave a personal message If you wish

If anything is clear, I can post some albums, too.

Sorry about my bad english, I´m german, please write slow..... =D

Something must be done more and more members come to this great forum every day, real active members must be protect. Why we shareing if there is no rules for shared file? I would't like that somebody with out one shared file download my shared files. I think that password for shared files is solution. Something like this 1) we upload file with password but dont edit it on the post. Users can get it only by posting message to uploader. If they have some shared files they will get password. 2) Dont edit link in post send it by message to user.

I know what do you mean but I don`t understand your concept. Why stupidiest, if we just are givin`forum a few ideas for better workin`. Remember U said me: Is not my forum, is OUR FORUM.
I love U so much, friend, but I think "kanasta" is right (is tooooo serious, but is ok).

But the other way is:

When we go to other forums and want to download: I don`t like that the active members of that forum do this to me, so I finish thinking that is a free world, free forum and until now: free music.
So download all that, where and when U can.
I said. This topic is over for me.

Whatever We must remember: DISCUSSION DOESN`T MEANS FIGHT

This site is like my home. I`ll take care.

i agree with Berni - this forum must be free. If someone wishes to parol his posted archive - he's welcome, but then we'll have to decide - will we use one common parol (like it was at Bigbadmusic.blogspot.com) or will each man use his own one? As for me, the first way is not much comfortable - sometimes i post one topic at different forums (sometimes under different nicks) so it will look at least strange aeae
And, by the way, don't we have the site admin? ;) It's he who ll make final decision :roar:

If you are smart enough to know how to download an album, unzip and play it - you should be smart enough to then upload an album and post it!!

How did most people learn to download? They try, try try, until they understand how to do it. The first time I uploaded an album, I did it wrong. But after a couple of times I figured it out. I've uploaded to Rapidshare over 400 albums.

A lot of people just don't want to take time to upload.

And one question to all the people who say, "I'm afraid to upload cause I don't want to break laws". Everytime you download an album from here - you break laws.

And I'm sorry to say, but posting a comment, is not the same as posting an album. You still are doing no work. It can sometimes take hours to upload an album, especialy an album that has more than one disc.

I say no up - no down. And people who have no uploads after a certain period should be warned, then banned.

I don't know, too many politics....

Best regards,

Uhm,
there is music being posted here at what rate right now? Something like 40 hours of music each day?
If you force people to upload, you'll probably have more double uploads, others doing reposts of URLs, and so on.
IMHO it's fine as long as there are 'enough' people doing some uploads (including occasional re-ups when a link is gone).
If you keep access restricted too much, some people that would become uploaders later on might be scared away too early.
(like: why upload something to join if you don't know if there is something in there interesting to you etc. pp.)

There are 883 registered users and you expect everyone to post? That's crazy! People who want to post will. People who don't won't. To badger people into it is not welcoming. You might as well make it a private community of 10 people if that's the prevailing attitude.

When I get my CDs out of storage, I need to rip them anyway as they're only collecting dust. When I do, I'll start posting as I have a kick ass collection.

Ok guys, I read carefully all the point of viewn here and I guess someone must make a decision, and this person is me.

Of all the suggestions, some have ethical issues that I wont trespass and others technical.
THe technical problem is that i dont have the structural code of the site to Change it and create an automatic system to recompense uploaders and punish leechers. If we achieve that ad stuff goal and score 50 points we will be even aloowed to host files IN the forum.

For now, I can set this rule (reccomendation):

ONly active mebers may(and should) have the right to request. And you all should take a look at a person's karma before conceding them an especific album.

Guys, the spirit here is to share and not expecting much from it, only thing you should expect is information, friendship and other albums from people with our same behavior.

Gradually more people will participate and upload. No extreme policies.

What I crave for is: ORDER and assiduity in the posting system and its rules.
You moderators are able and supposed to edit ramdon topics and bring order to your boards. Some good people with no foruming notions are posting like a submachine gun, but with a low information quality on their posts.

Hugs.

This is wrote to kanasta in some other post:

Friend, I like a free and easy atmosphere and would like to avoid trouble , and I don't think having overzealous mods s is going to be good for the group. We are not here only to share .rar albums, you know. Most of us active member are genuine collectors and we have this mood to share. Some people contribute with this site's dynamics by excatly creating this easy atmosphere, or findind missed CD covers, briunging up discusions, softwares or even being "nice".

The "all or nothing at all" policy is too extreme. I am softer than that. Let's play it cool.

I really mean it. We are growing as a community, we need rules, but not dictatorship, otehrwise we create a 40 people FTP place. That's not the aim here, I wanna see "swing music" spread, and if it takes LOTS of uploads and few downloads, I wont complain. How did you guys think my life was like when I ran the Big Bad Music? I will answer: Good.

Hi guys,
I wanna tell U something

I think it is time for me to make a short break in the JUMP BLUES Section.
Anyone with eyes wide open
 can see that I wanna play "tennis".
That means: I post a album of a blues artist and my wish is, that someone picks up the ball and post another album of the same artist.
At the beginning it works well.

But now there is a stop. Something is going wrong here. I miss the nice words and the conservations when I posted something.

I know, this is a open and free Sharing community without rules. But it is no Ying-Yang. Too many people pick the Cds and don´t left anything from theirselves.

I can`t change other people. I just can change my own behavior.
For me it`s time to move back to my dog house........:-)

Maybe someday`I`ll be back, maybe not......who knows.

Take Care guys

I`ll watching you................ ohyeah!

Hey Zookyo,

I had no idea about the "tennis" thing and I imagine I'm not the only one.

I certainly understand about your wanting to take a break. You post like a damn demon.

I don't know if you have a lightning fast computer and connection or if maybe you're posting links to things you previously uploaded, but even if I did nothing else all day I don't think I could match your pace.

I hope you're not leaving forever and will keep checking in to see what goodies might show up.

I've really appreciated all your music, posts and effort.

All my best.

Zookyo,

I don't spend much time over in the Jump Blues forum, since I am more into Classic Jazz and Neo-Swing, but I do post here (in different forums) and I know how much time and effort it takes. Yes it is true there are a lot more people that take than those that post. It always is that way. Most that take don't even bother to say thanks (or give karma). I don't think is right, but there is nothing I can do about it except stop posting. However, I do enjoy posting for those few other people that I do connect with that say thanks and want to share music. They make it worthwhile for me. I am sure you must have connected with some people while you were here. As for all the silent leechers out there, they don't exist as far as I am concerned. I don't think about them and I don't care. It's the few people here that make it worthwhile for me. I will say, being one of the posters here, I appreciate anybody else that posts. So, thank you for your contributions. When you get tired of Tennis, come back and visit.
