Phantom Dancer Radio Show Play List and Video of the Week for…

Tuesday 13 July 12 noon 107.3 2SER-FM Sydney (Sydney is +10 GMT)
Sunday 18 July 6:30am 107.3 2SER-FM Sydney (repeat)
Live streamed over http://www.2ser.com/stream

The Phantom Dancer plays swing, jazz & dance from live 1920s – 60s radio & TV shows on your wireless and ear-o-phones
This week hear Ruth & Louise duelling pianos with Phil Spitalny and his NBC Hour of Charm Orchestra & Chorus with Evelyn & “Her Magic Violin”. Evelyn auditioned over 1000 woman performers for the 22-piece Orch & Chorus, all of whom played multiple instruments and sang in the choir. An all-female Orchestra was a novelty in 1945 (and still is in 2010) and a big success for NBC. All members of the All Girl Orchestra were contracted to remain unmaried for 2 years. (In 2010 they’d be obliged to have the odd lesbian affair). Even Phil & Evelyn had to wait until they married, eventually retiring together to Florida. (In 2010 they’d also be obliged to also adopt a couple of kiddies)
