Problem with Search

Postby jeffbhappy » Mon Jul 07, 2008 7:43 pm

There is something that occurs when I do a search that I find awkward (or worse), and I don't know if it is because of something I'm doing or if there is some problem with the setup of the basic search vehicle. Please, someone (Luis?) let me know.

If I do a search that produces multiple results, I can click on any of them and it takes me, as it should, to the result I have selected. However, I can't get back to click on another of the results. If I use the back arrow from my browser I get a "web-page expired" page and have to go all the way back and re-do the search. That is tolerable if it's only two or three results I want to look at, but if I need to check out ten results I wind up having to do the search ten times.

Is it me? :?: Is there another way to get back to the search results list?

Thanks.

Problem with Search

Postby jeffbhappy » Tue Jul 08, 2008 2:33 am

Hi, Bernie. Hope you can help.

I use Internet Explorer 7 - I guess I'm just not adventurous. And I am talking about the back arrow on the far upper left corner of the page - the one that typically takes you back to the previous screen.

I am using the Anyswing search. Near the top of any page there is a menu going across the screen. "Home FAQ Search Etc." I click on Search and it takes me to a page titled Search Query, where I fill in the blanks with my keywords and click on Search. It always works well as a search vehicle, but as I said, I can't return to the page where it produced my multiple results.

Thanks for any guidance.

I actually can go back with Firefox 2 & 3, but there is a more reasonable way. Don't open a link with a simple left click, instead open it in a new window or better, in a new tab. This is possible with IE7, too, just click the link with your middle mouse button.

Problem with Search

Postby jeffbhappy » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:23 pm

Hey Staub, thanks.

I feel kind of foolish for not thinking of that solution myself, but hell, I'm getting old and not as sharp as I'd like to be. Anyway, you solved my problem, and I am indeed glad I asked.

I don't have a center button on my mouse, so I am doing a right click on the link I want and then selecting "open in a new tab" from the menu. It works fine, but I do have to go to the top and then click on the second (new) tab in order to be where I want. After seeing that result I just close the tab and I'm back at the search results screen.

Much appreciation. :banana1: :banana1:

You can open a link in a new tab with CTRL+Left click, too. I usually open the most promising results in a rush and then crawl through the tabs. That's what makes tabs so useful, you have a good overview about quite a lot of open pages all at once.
