Request For CD Posting Instructions

Postby jeffbhappy » Wed Jun 27, 2007 10:17 pm

Hi, everyone.

I have searched all over the web site, and I have read all the discussions and instructions regarding how to post CDs. I'm sorry, but I'm too ignorant, or too far behind the curve, or just too much of a dummy to be able to put it all together and just do it.

I have a suspicion that there are many of us who are in that position - wanting to contribute, but being too un-knowledgable to be able to post. Yes, I read where someone said to just plunge ahead and try. However, the whole thing is a lot more cyber-complex than I'm used to, and it's just too imposing. I have a long history of being the one who thinks he represents all the other dummies and speaks up - I sure hope I'm not the only one at this low level. But I do believe a lot more people would contribute to this board if you would follow my request/suggestion.

I want to contribute. I can probably handle comments, but not CDs yet. And Swankyboy requested a CD I have and would certainly share. But I'm not confident enough to just plow ahead. And Luiz knows I'd like to - I've emailed him mp3s because I simply don't know what else to do.

Anyway, here's the request. We, the dummy group, could benefit greatly from a line-by-line instruction, or tutorial, on posting a CD. My current capability is that I can rip a CD and get it into a folder of mp3s. I can also scan the artwork and song list into 2 jpgs and get it into the same folder.

I haven't got the slightest idea of what to do after that. Starting with compressing, do I compress each mp3 or do I compress the folder? Then how do I go about uploading? Does Sharebee provide me a download link? What do I do do get this all onto Anyswing? Do I put the artwork in the folder going to Sharebee or do I attach it to a posting?

Sorry for being so far behind, but you experts could help some of us by providing a detailed, almost from scratch, set of instructions.

Thanks for listening. And by the way, I have really been delighted with most of the music I have found here, and can't even begin to express my appreciation to all of you - and especially Luiz.

Hi Jeff,

I'm no techhead, but I think I can answer some of your questions.

When using a program like Winrar to compress the files--open winrar & select the whole file--not individual tracks. Before you compress put any photos & tracklistings in the file to be compressed, that way the tracks & all get zipped up into one tidy package.

If your compressed file is greater than 100 megabytes in size, you might want to consider zipping it into two halves since sharebee & some of the other uploading services only accept files under 100 megabytes.

As for uploading to sharebee, just go to sharebee.com, select your file, check the box that you've understood the terms of service & hit upload. Leave that internet window open & when your upload is finished it'll show you a link--if you give them your email address I think they'll also send you a copy of the link. Copy and paste the link wherever you want.

Hope that's some help--

Here is a very detailed step-by-step. From the folder with mp3 files to the posting moethods. ;)

Ripping and Compressing:

1) If you have a CD that you want to transform into mp3 files, download and install a CD Ripping program, such as CD-DA Extractor (download link: http://sharebee.com/ec582b18)

2) RIp in a good quality (193kpbs or higher) and place the mp3 files into a folder named "Artist Name - Album".

3) Instal WinRAR (DOwnload link: http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar370.exe)

4) After the instalation is complete, go to the folder with the mp3+album art and right click it, then click on "Add to File". Winrar will open a window and in this window you can choose lots of possibilities, including where you would like to place the outcomming .rar file that the program will generate.

5) Done, by now you will have a file with the name of the folder.rar

Uploading and Posting:

1) Go to www.sharebee.com It's a very easy site to deal with. CLick on "File" or "Browse" depending on your language settings and a prompt windom will show up asking for the location of this .rar file you have just created. Select the file, click on the "Term and Conditions" and then click on UPLOAD. It will start immediately.

2) When the upload is complete there will be a light green link on the center of the main window. Copy this link, dont close this window yet.

3) Open our site, go to the board that best fits the musical style of your CD and click on it. Example: enter the Neo Swing board and create a topic.

4) On the Topic title, type the artist's name. NOw let's go to the body of the posting.

5) ON the body type the Album's name and the year of publication, if you have this information. Now let's place the CD cover art.
• An easy way to find CD cover is the good old google. Open a newo browser windo. Type the artist name and the album's name and search for "IMAGES", select the image, open it untill it reachs it's biggest size possible. Copy the image's link (exemple htttp://wwww.test.com/exemplexemple.JPG) and go back to the posting body. PIck up this link and do it Image

6) The image will NOT appear immediately, so now you can write (paste) an album review, tracklist AND THE SHAREBEE LINK that is waiting for you. Copy and paste the sharebee link under the tracklist.

DONE! Now, click on SUBMIT to send or PREVIEW to see how it's gonna look like (remember to click on SUBMIT after).
* If you have another CD from the same artist DO NOT create another topic, simply enter on the previous post and "Reply to POst".
