Swing covers by Rock bands?

Postby TopCrusader » Sat Jan 16, 2010 12:28 pm

Hello everybody. There are several Swing bands out there that have done covers of Rock/Pop songs such as Paul Anka (Eye of the Tiger, etc), Eight to the Bar ("You call this Swing?" album) and New Morty Show (Enter Sandman).
I am curious if anybody is aware of Rock bands that have done covers of swing/big band songs? The only one that comes to mind that I know of is Wolfgang Parker who did a fantastic cover of Sing Sing Sing (His albums are available in the NeoSwing section). I would love to hear other swing songs covered by rock bands!!
Any suggestions?
Thanks! :D

Hey TopCrusader....

It took me awhile to think about this one, and I am not sure what you feel encompasses rock because that term can be pretty broad, but I will go ahead and go with the obvious....

The one album, that comes to mind is Jumpin Jive by Joe Jackson. If you haven't heard this, it is an absolute must have. Many credit this album as the first neo-swing album. It was released in 1981 way before the neo-swing revival. I just updated the original post by Luiz with new download links and upgraded the upload to 320kbps which you can find here

http://www.anyswing.com/joe-jackson-t83.html#p87

There was also a thread similar to this one not too long ago asking about Ska bands that do swing songs. You might want to check that out, too. Here's a link to the thread...

This also brings to mind Flight 180, a Ska Pop band which made one great swing album. You can find it here...

Of course, all these are already available on anyswing...

There is a Japanese Ska Band called Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra that occasionally do a swing song on some of their albums...well I remember at least one (but I think there are more). I have their albums on mp3 but I don't know their discography well enough to pick out all (or their just one?) swing song easily. If I have some time, I will try to listen to some of their albums and pick out some songs. They have a pretty large discography, though. So, It might take me a while to get around to it.

Well that's about all I can think of for now....

I`m always late.

Is hard to me read and understand english. Maybe I`m a dummy... But if I understand right, You`re talking about something like this:

David Lee Roth: "Jus a Giggolo" but in and entire album, right?

In fact, Cherry Poppin` Daddies isn`t a swing band... What Do You Think?
