The nice King Kong soundtrack with all the film dialogue in it made me think of this very cool soundtrack from one of the greatest movies ever, it also has a lot of dialogue in it and the music is basically one theme with variations but I like it a lot and listen to it quite often. Enjoy.

Wikipedia says:

The distinctive musical score was composed and played on the zither by Anton Karas. A single, "The Third Man Theme", released in 1950 (Decca in UK, London Records in USA) became a best-seller, and later an LP was released. Before the production came to Vienna, Karas was an unknown wine bar performer. Reed and Howard fell in love with Karas' zither after hearing him play inside a café. Karas agreed to record some of his own compositions on a reel-to-reel tape machine that Reed set up in the bedroom of his hotel; one of these was later to become the Harry Lime Theme and become a popular hit. The exposure made Karas an international star after the movie was released.[3] Film critic Roger Ebert wrote, "Has there ever been a film where the music more perfectly suited the action than in Carol Reed's 'The Third Man'?"

This is really special! I know the movie but never heard the soundtrack. Those were the days...not a soundtrack with just a couple top40 hits like nowadays to earn some extra money, but an actual relevant one!

Good stuff. Heard somewhere that the main movie theme was popular enough at the time that when Orson Welles went into restaurants with a live orchestra they'd often launch into an arrangement of it--which he hated!

They recently did a re-recording of the original score, so the sound is a bit better & there's no talking over it (though it misses some of Anton Karas' special zing) which I'll try to post soon.

Okay--here's the confusingly titled "The Third Man - Original Soundtrack," which is actually a relatively recent re-creation. AMG explains it better than I can here.
